SILVER BELLS
It’s 4:30, why 4:30? The alarm starts to ring
Once again it is time to awaken.
Take a shower, dress for power, then we climb in our cars
As we join in the pilgrimage to …
Metro North, Metro North
Ride it each day to the city.
Driving far, in my car
I hope to catch the next train.
At the station, grabbing coffee and a doughnut or two
As we hustle on board for our seating.
Read the paper, eat the breakfast, take a nap if you can
Until Grand Central Station appears.
Metro North, Metro North
Now you’ve reached Grand Central Station
Now we start, to depart
It’s time to catch the subway
Down the ramps and to the platform, to the shuttle we go
We must reach the west side of Manhattan
Since the train’s so awfully crowded you must stand the whole way
‘Til at 42nd Street you hear
“Fifty bucks, fifty bucks”
just walk on by to the subway
You can’t lose, you can choose
The E, 1, 2, 3 or 9 train
Take your subway down to Franklin, in Tribeca depart
It’s a twelve minute walk to the office
When you get there, put your day in, when you leave now it’s dark
And you make the whole trip in reverse
Metro North, Metro North
This is our way of commuting
At 8:04, through your front door
Tomorrow you’ll do this again.
